š® #BlessingSeries Issue 34 - From Tools to Digital Helpers: What I Learned About Agentic AI at a Launch Event
A week ago I attended a launch and learned how AI is moving from answers to action. Hereās what it means for all of us.
Last week, I had the opportunity to attend an inaugural launch event hosted by the Agentics Foundation. It was inspiring to be in a room filled with brilliant minds such as designers, engineers, academics, and business leaders, all passionate about shaping the next era of artificial intelligence.
We talked about a topic thatās fast becoming the most discussed theme in AI this year: agentic AI.
Some peeps would think that most AI are just tools that answer questions or generate text or images. But what I learned is that we are moving into a new phase where machines donāt just respond, but they act.
They act not just as assistants, but as digital helpers that can plan, decide and carry out tasks on our behalf.
This is a big shift, and itās trending in global technology conversations right now. It represents a move from asking AI to do something for you, to assigning responsibilities and outcomes to it, almost like having a digital helper that can make decisions you trust.
What Is Agentic AI?
Most AI today listens and follows instructions. You ask it a question, and it answers.
Agentic AI goes a few steps further:
It understands your goal
It plans how to reach it
It takes actions using the tools and resources available
It can adapt if things change
Think of it like a smart helper. Instead of saying āwrite an email,ā you say āhandle this conversation until itās resolved,ā and the AI figures out the steps and executes them.
This is becoming one of the most talked-about topics in AI right now. Major tech companies are building systems that can independently carry out multi-step activities across apps, from searching and planning to executing actions.
Examples You May Have Already Encountered
At the India AI Impact Summit 2026 earlier this week, Mastercard unveiled whatās being called the first agentic commerce transaction. This means an AI assistant can search for products, verify website safety, and complete a purchase for someone entirely on its own.
Uber is also testing an AI grocery assistant that can read your shopping list, build your cart, and prepare it for checkout. A real example of a system acting beyond simple recommendations.
These developments show that in 2026, people wonāt just use AI to help think, they will use AI to get things done.
But Thereās a Human Side Too
This trend feels futuristic, but what it really points to is something very human:
We want support that is reliable, safe and reflective of our intentions.
Just as a seasoned executive might delegate tasks to a trusted colleague, agentic AI promises a future where AI becomes a collaborator rather than a tool.
Yet this comes with responsibilities.
Because when AI starts acting on our behalf:
We must build trust in how decisions are made
We must protect privacy and guard against harm
We must ensure humans remain in control
These are not minor details; they are essential design principles.
Experts have been clear that while agentic AI is exciting, there are real concerns about governance, safety and accountability, especially when these systems start acting independently in sensitive areas.
Why This Matters to You and Me
You donāt have to be a designer or engineer to care about this trend.
Agentic AI will touch our lives like:
Digital helpers that can manage our schedules
Assistants who optimise our shopping and travel plans
Tools that help small businesses automate routines
Systems that support elderly care or accessibility
What I took home from that launch event is this:
AI is evolving from language and suggestions to agency and actions.
The goal is not to replace people, but to amplify human purpose. And like all powerful tools, it must be guided with thoughtful design, ethics and empathy.
